Sophronia Cook
Sophronia Cook (b. 1992) is a Los Angeles based artist, born in Sanger, California and raised on an orange farm. Cook combines painting, sculpture, and printmaking techniques to create intricate, multi-layered works where the repetition of forms and textures becomes a defining characteristic. Drawing inspiration from everyday objects, natural phenomena, and personal memories, she places strong emphasis on the physical properties of her materials. Utilizing techniques such as frottage and mold casting, Cook develops a unique visual language that feels organic, intuitive, and often spontaneous.
Cook holds a BFA from Hampshire College in Art & Printmaking and a MFA in Sculpture, History and Theory of Contemporary Art from San Francisco Art Institute. She has held solo exhibitions at SPY Projects (Los Angeles), Et Al Gallery (San Francisco), Despair Gallery (Los Angeles), Future Gallery (Berlin), Long Play Contemporary (Santa Monica), Conventional Projects (San Francisco), Recology Recycling Plant (San Francisco), Harold F. Johnson Gallery (Amherst), New Relations (Florence).
